The current lighting columns

Waaree Energies Ltd, a diversified and fast growing solar power solutions company bagged a turnkey order to design, engineer, supply, install and commission solar photovoltaic power plants. This order includes the installation of LED Lighting Fixtures in 126 number of jails aggregating to 305 KWP, in Madhya Pradesh. An emergency light is a battery-backed lighting device that comes on automatically when a building experiences a power outage. The installation process is near completion.

The turnkey order was obtained from Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited, a M.P Govt. Undertaking. Hitesh Doshi, CMD, Waaree Group said, "Today being energy efficient is no more a matter of choice, but a matter of indispensability. This initiative is in line with our commitment towards building a greener and safer future."

The solar powered LED light fixtures will contribute significantly in terms of overhauling the existing infrastructures within the jails and will also ensure better security standards.

Adding more lighting to an area has been proven to deter crimes. In a 2001 Cambridge University experiment, crime rates decreased by 41 percent in areas where street lighting was improved. The savings caused by reduced crimes rates actually outweighed the financial costs of adding street lights. Adding more lighting on campus might mean a chunk of money upfront, but this could be easily covered by the reduced crime rate on campus.Thank you for providing us with information to help us maintain street light.

Along with safety, a growing trend at K-State is our concern with the environment and energy costs. These ideals can be seen taking shape in recycling bins popping up around campus and in more complex projects like the Leadership Study Building’s LEED certification. Adding additional lighting around campus provides another opportunity for us to “go green” by changing out some of the old lights and installing the new fluorescent or LED light bulbs.

In June 2013 the Buckinghamshire County Council Business Investment Group (BIG) approved a three year LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting replacement strategy. Over the next 3 years almost 7,500 street lights will be replaced.

LED lighting provides on average 50-60% reduction to annual energy consumption when compared to traditional lighting and has an extended life of 20 years as opposed to the standard 3 to 6 years for a traditional lamp, therefore reducing maintenance costs greatly.

The current lighting columns will remain in situ and the project focuses solely on changing the lantern in order to provide best value. The LED lighting itself provides a clearer,A solar bulb that charges up during the day and lights the night when the sun sets. brighter white light as opposed to the traditional yellow glow of current street lights.

Replacements will commence in Autumn 2013. 1,100 street lights will be replaced by the end of December 2013 with a further 1,550 across the county by the end of March 2014.

The programme to replace street lights in residential areas across the county is subject to future funding but is in progress, with a view to achieving 90% LED across the county within a five-year period.
